The Final Countdown:  What to Do on the Day of Your Teaching Interview

You’ve done your homework, and today is your big day!  INTERVIEW TIME!  This blog post is short and sweet; we’re going to talk about what to do on the day of your teaching interview, and these are some final tips for you to close out this interview journey.  By now, you’ve:

This is the last post in our interview series!  I hope it has helped guide you along the way!  These final tips are here for you to seal the deal on feeling confident and ready to NAIL YOUR INTERVIEW!  Read through them and take note!  Remember, YOU GOT THIS!  I’m so proud of you. GOOD LUCK!

What to Do on the Day of the Interview

First, ensure a healthy and positive start to your day.

  • Start your day early.
  • Exercise if that’s part of your daily routine and you have time.
  • Have a solid, well-balanced breakfast.
  • Shower and get ready.  PRO TIP:  Put on your best hype music!
  • Repeat affirmations.
  • Bring water with you.

Make a good first impression.

  • Dress professionally.
  • Test your tech if it’s a virtual interview.
  • Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb.”
  • Be punctual.  Early = on time.
    • You can wait in your car until 15 minutes before the interview and review questions and answers OR wait in the main office.
    • Remember, find out where to park and where to sign in beforehand.  Call ahead or email.   
      PRO TIP:  Drive by the area before your interview date.
  • Bring in copies of your portfolio, resume, and cover letter.
  • Bring any notes, paper, and a pen/pencil.
  • Be aware of body language and make eye contact.  Acknowledge everyone you come in contact with or pass by.
  • BREATHE!

Later, send a thank you email after your interview.

  • Send to all interviewing team/hiring committee members.  Be sure to ask the main office for the names of all who attended the interview.
    • Thank them for the opportunity. 
    • Be honest and make a connection to something that really stuck from the interview.
    • Clarify any questions you feel need clarifying.
    • Express your final interest.
    • PRO TIP:  Wish them the best of luck in their search.
