As the end of the school year approaches, I highly recommend reflecting on the journey you and your students have taken together. Throughout the year, each experience brings its own set of challenges, triumphs, and memorable moments, making it worth remembering. In addition, creating lasting memories honors the time spent together and provides an opportunity for reflection and closure. Keep reading for some creative ways to memorialize the school year with your students!

Wrapping Up the School Year
Now, let’s get started! You’re students (and you) have worked hard this year! Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, friendships, conflicts… you’ve seen it all! Along the way, where there were tough times, there were also joyful moments—times of learning and laughter. Let’s capture those memories! Here are some ideas:
- Yearbook Signing Party: Organize a yearbook signing party where students can leave messages and autographs with their classmates. Encourage them to write heartfelt notes, share jokes, and express gratitude for the memories made throughout the year. This activity fosters a sense of community and allows students to revisit shared experiences.
- Memory Jar: Set up a memory jar in your classroom and encourage students to write down their favorite moments from the school year on colorful slips of paper. These memories might include field trips, classroom activities, or special achievements. At the end of the year, read aloud some of the memories as a class or have students take turns pulling out slips and sharing the highlights.
Pro Tip: Do this about a month before school ends and then read one memory each day as a countdown to the last day! Share yours on the last day of school to close it out!

Community Celebrations & Personal Reflections
- Scrapbook: Create a scrapbook (paper or digital) using photos, videos, and artwork from throughout the year. Platforms like Google Slides, Canva, or Adobe Spark make it easy to create presentations. Invite your students to contribute and personalize their class scrapbook or create their own.
- End-of-Year Awards Ceremony: Host an end-of-year awards ceremony to recognize students’ accomplishments and celebrate their unique talents and contributions. Categories could range from academic achievements to acts of kindness and creativity. Get creative with the awards titles and make sure to acknowledge each student in a meaningful way.

- Classroom Mural: Completely transform a blank wall or bulletin board in your classroom into a collaborative mural that captures the school year. Include photos, drawings, paintings, and even written reflections to represent their favorite memories, academic achievements, or lessons learned. Let this special visual serve as a reminder of the fun and learning you’ve shared.
Pro Tip: Come together as a class to select a “Word of the Year” and use it as the theme for your class mural! Perhaps your class showed incredible “perseverance” or demonstrated awesome “growth” – use that “Word of the Year” to brainstorm ideas for your mural!
Capture Those Moments
- Time Capsule: Create a time capsule filled with mementos from the school year. This could include photos, letters, artwork, and items that represent trends. Hold on to the time capsule (be sure to label the year you created it and the year you plan on opening it). Before your kiddos leave the school building, open the time capsule! Want something a little shorter term? Keep the time capsule and in June of the next school year, coordinate with the teachers in the next grade to let you take a trip down memory lane.

- Farewell Slideshow: Compile a slideshow featuring highlights from the school year, such as class trips, projects, and special events. Set it to music and screen it during an end-of-year celebration.
- Reflection Journals: Distribute and create reflection journals and encourage students to write about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences from the school year. Provide prompts to guide their reflections, such as “What was your proudest moment this year?” or “What lessons have you learned?”
